From childhood, jute sacks have fascinated Ieke Trinks a great deal. They were holding potatoes, and after, used for playful games. These sacks are also used during the controversial Dutch feast of Saint Nicolas, for which jute sacks hold the presents for children. Through her art, Trinks questions the use of resources for single-use purposes, such as deposable items and packaging. At Indian markets, jute sacks are omnipresent, they are used multiple times and are repaired.

Trinks conducted the 3-day workshop in Name of “Encounter” with 18 students and 7 artists from Punjab, Chandigarh, and New Delhi,  the project artist is Ikagar( Patiala), Hardev Singh Dev (Chandigarh), Prashant Singh (New Delhi), Anand Swarup(Mohali), Vanshika Sareen (Ambala). The purpose is to bring awareness to the challenges of environmental and marginal practices and how it’s survived in small places. As well as the issue around the Anthropocene.

The Curatores invite  to explore the world from a particular perspective. Being positioned on the edge is away from the centre, and observing the centre from a distance, while it also can be understood to be the position of exclusion or the marginalized. The choice to position oneself on the edge is to put oneself in danger or at risk. Coming to the edge is what we are experiencing with the use of fossil resources slowly coming to its point of exhaustion and the accumulation of ongoing waste.
